Pregame Attractions At Coors Field

The Garden, situated near Gate A, grows veggies and herbs for the ballpark’s eateries to use.

Coors Field’s location in downtown Denver means that you’ve got no shortage of things to see and do before the game — and after, if you’re attending an afternoon match-up. One site that ballpark aficionados will definitely want to check out is the National Ballpark Museum, which contains a wide range of exciting artifacts that tell the history of ballparks across the country. It’s only open from Tuesday through Saturday, though, so you’ll want to coordinate your visit around these days if you’re in Denver for a bit. The museum is located at 1940 Blake St., less than a block from Coors Field.

If you have a green thumb, be sure to check out The Garden, which is located adjacent to Coors Field’s Gate A. You’ll see a wide variety of vegetables and herbs that are grown for use in the ballpark’s eateries. Take note of the purple items, including purple basil, that tie into the Rockies branding.

Just four blocks away is Denver’s famous 16th Street Mall, which runs through the heart of the city. It’s a mile-long promenade with nearly 50 restaurant patios, many of which are hopping on Rockies game days. There’s a huge shopping and theater complex, known as Denver Pavilions, located at the mall’s south end. You can hop on free shuttle buses up and down the 16th Street Mall, or take a ride on a pedi-cab in the evening. Outside of the 16th Street Mall, there are countless dining, shopping and entertainment options within an easy walk of Coors Field.

If you’re interested in sports beyond baseball, Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium (home of the NFL’s Broncos) is about two miles away. Pepsi Center (home of the NHL’s Avalanche) is less than a mile from Coors Field. Both facilities offer tours, but if you’re short on time, you can still grab a photo of yourself in front of either one.
