It’s very easy to think that by the time superstar Shohei Ohtani hangs up his cleats, he’ll be viewed as one of the very best baseball players of all time. Some people are already listing him among the all-time greats — and it’s hard to argue with them.

Since he burst onto the major league scene in 2018, Ohtani has done nothing but make headlines and impress fans with his prowess at the plate and on the mound. In this list, we’re looking at his success in the batter’s box — and using data from Statcast to count down the 10 longest home runs of his career to date. (All videos appear courtesy of MLB.)

Here are the 10 longest home runs of Shohei Ohtani’s career.

10. 454 feet: July 2, 2023, at Angel Stadium

Ohtani gets our list started with a blast at home that came off Arizona’s Kyle Nelson. Nelson left a slider in the middle of the strike zone that Ohtani launched 454 feet to deep right field. The baseball, which left Ohtani’s bat at 115.4 mph, landed in the tunnel halfway up the outfield seats. It was the slugger’s 31st home run of the season.

9. 456 feet: May 15, 2023, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards

The first road home run on this list took place in Baltimore against Grayson Rodriguez during a game that Ohtani was also on the mound. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Ohtani cracked a cutter with an exit velocity of 114.6 mph, sending it deep to right-center field. The baseball landed close to the Boog’s BBQ concession stand on Eutaw Street, and was his ninth of the season.

6 (t). 459 feet: July 4, 2021, at Angel Stadium

The fans who turned up at Angel Stadium on Independence Day of 2021 got what they wanted to see — an Ohtani home run that is still one of the longest of the slugger’s career. Ohtani lifted a 2-2 slider from Baltimore’s Thomas Eshelman to straightaway center field, sending the baseball with an exit velocity of 112.5 mph to the grass on the batter’s eye. The homer tied Ohtani with former all-star Hideki Matsui as the only two Japanese-born players to hit 31 home runs in a season. Matsui did so in 2004, and it wouldn’t be long before Ohtani broke this record.

6 (t). 459 feet: May 31, 2023, at Guaranteed Rate Field

The way that veteran starter Lance Lynn hung his head a split second after Ohtani connected with a high fastball said it all. Ohtani hit a towering home run, his second long ball of the afternoon, 459 feet deep into the seats in right-center field. The ball landed just a few rows from the top of the field-level seats after leaving Ohtani’s bat at 111.8 mph.

6 (t). 459 feet: June 12, 2023, at Globe Life Field

Some hitters have trouble putting a good swing on an off-speed pitch that is low and on the inner half of the plate, but not Ohtani. The Japanese superstar turned around a slider from Grant Anderson, driving the baseball 459 feet to left-center field — and punctuated the blast with a stylish bat flip. The ball left Ohtani’s bat at 114.1 mph and was his 19th home run of the season.

5. 462 feet: June 25, 2022, at Angel Stadium

In front of the Angels faithful, Ohtani put a no-doubt swing on a fastball from Seattle’s Logan Gilbert and crushed it deep into the seats in right-center field. The ball left his bat at 118 mph, which is tops on this list, and traveled 462 feet. It was the longest home run of 2022 for Ohtani, who hit 34 dingers that season.

3 (t). 463 feet: July 9, 2021, at T-Mobile Park

The longest home run of Ohtani’s 2021 American League MVP season flew 470 feet, but his home run in Seattle on July 9 wasn’t a whole lot shorter. That long ball, Ohtani’s 33rd of the year, came off an elevated fastball from Marco Gonzales. Ohtani drilled the pitch with a 116.5 mph exit velocity, sending the ball 463 feet off the facing of the upper deck in deep right field.

3 (t). 463 feet: July 27, 2021, at Angel Stadium

Ohtani’s next entry on this list took place against the Rockies. He was named American League MVP that season, thanks in part to the 46 home runs he hit. Home run #36 came at home off a slider from Austin Gomber. Ohtani launched the ball deep into the right-center field seats, 463 feet from home plate. The homer had an exit velocity of 110.4 mph.

2. 470 feet: June 8, 2021, at Angel Stadium

Ohtani’s second-longest home run at Angel Stadium — to date, anyway — came during his 2021 AL MVP season. Ohtani timed up a changeup from Kris Bubic and pummelled the baseball 470 feet to two-thirds of the way up the seats in right-center field. The blast had an exit velocity of 111.7 mph. It was Ohtani’s longest of the season and the 10th longest home run hit in the big leagues that year.

1. 493 feet: June 30, 2023, at Angel Stadium

The home run that Ohtani hit at Angel Stadium on June 30, 2023, was notable for several reasons. Not only was it the longest home run at the ballpark in the Statcast era, but it was also the longest home run of the season up to that point. The 493-foot round-tripper was also Ohtani’s 15th home run in the month of June, bringing him to an even 30 home runs before the calendar turned to July. Ohtani blasted the record-setting home run off Arizona’s Tommy Henry, who left a slider in the middle of the plate. Ohtani connected with an exit velocity of 115.1 mph and sent the baseball deep into the seats in right field.
